A medium sized version of the open bookcase design with wedged tenons and gracefully proportioned increasing shelf height and depth from top to bottom. This backless design came to me roughly ten years ago, and I've enjoyed experimenting with different scales and materials over time. There is a unique effect created by the sides being narrower than the shelves, making the whole piece appear to float off the wall.
This piece was made from some particularly striking North American Cherry, with an oil finish to bring out the luster of the grain. Also available in Walnut. Suitable for freestanding or wall-mounting.

The open bookcase design looks great hanging on the wall with as few as three shelves, or standing floor-to-ceiling. Besides the cherry shown here, you could decide to go with a much lighter look, such as maple, or something deeper along the lines of walnut. Any other ideas? Let's talk! - Check out my Materials page for examples of the various materials and finishes I work with.
